Standing Up to Your Calling: When God Says ‘Go’

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” — Jeremiah 1:5
Have You Felt the Nudge?
There comes a moment—quiet, trembling, or thunderous—when God stirs your spirit and says: “This is what I made you for.” Maybe it’s a whisper in prayer, a passion you can’t shake, or a burden that breaks your heart in ways you can’t ignore. That, dear friend, is your calling.
But the moment you sense that calling, doubt often walks in right behind it.
“Who am I to do this?”“What if I’m not ready?”“What if I fail?”
You’re not alone. Moses, Jeremiah, Esther, Gideon—each one wrestled with fear, insecurity, or reluctance. But each one eventually stood up and stepped forward. And God used them powerfully because they obeyed, not because they were perfect.
God Calls the Willing, Not Just the Qualified
You might feel unqualified. But God doesn’t need your résumé—He desires your yes. When David was anointed king, he was just a shepherd boy overlooked by everyone except God. When Mary was called to carry the Messiah, she was a young, ordinary girl with no worldly power.
The truth is: God equips those He calls. Your job is to say “yes”; His job is to prepare, strengthen, and lead you.
“The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:24
Standing Up Takes Courage
Standing up to your calling isn’t always glamorous. It may mean stepping away from comfort, risking criticism, or walking through unfamiliar terrain. But the good news is: you don’t stand alone.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9
When God sends you, He goes with you. You are backed by the same power that raised Christ from the dead. Your courage doesn’t have to be loud—it just has to be obedient.
The World Needs What God Planted in You
There is something God put inside you that someone else needs. A story. A gift. A perspective. A mission. Your calling is not just about you; it’s about the lives God will touch through you.
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
So don’t hide your light. Don’t bury your talent. Don’t wait for perfection. Start now. Trust Him with the next step.
A Final Word
If you feel God calling you—into ministry, creativity, advocacy, missions, motherhood, leadership—whatever it may be: stand up. Even if your voice shakes. Even if you feel small. Your “yes” to God could change more lives than you’ll ever know.
You were made for such a time as this. (Esther 4:14)
God has called you. Now it’s time to stand up.
Have you recently felt called to something new or unexpected? I’d love to hear your story in the comments or pray with you. Don’t walk this journey alone. 🙏
